Five awesome lightweight strollers for travelling

by Fiona Luke June 26, 2016 4 min read

Traveling is really an experience you can’t miss out on in life. As I would say, once you get the travel bug inside of you, it’ll be hard to get it out.

Since young, I have always loved traveling – not only because that means I’m on vacation, but also because I get to experience new cultures and explore different sceneries. Unfortunately, for many individuals, the idea of traveling soon becomes a thought of the past when they start a family. Understandably so…with kids and a full time job, who has the time to make travel plans? One of the biggest concerns most parents have with regards to traveling with a kid is trying to figure out what stroller they should be using for their travels. The biggest advice I can share is to be sure to pick out a stroller that is LIGHTWEIGHT. In fact, when I consider lightweight strollers, every pound counts!

Here are five of my favourite lightweight strollers:

  • UPPAbaby G-Luxe

The UPPAbaby G-Luxe stroller is probably one very of the first umbrella strollers I really liked. It weighs 15 pounds, and supports kids who are 3 months and up as well as a maximum weight capacity of 55 pounds. What really stood out for me in this stroller is that it is designed for comfort. In fact, the first thing I noted down about this stroller was how heavily padded its seat is. What’s even better is that the seat pad is removable and machine-washable – definitely comes in handy since kids tend to make a mess whenever they snack in the stroller.
  • ZOE XL1 Sport

The ZOE XL1 stroller is another one of my favorite lightweight umbrella strollers. It is the lightest stroller out of the 5 strollers on this list and weighs in at just 9 pounds. It has a compact fold which measures only 26.5” x 15.5” x 7” once folded. Perhaps the two things that impressed me about this stroller was the fact that it came with a variety of accessories (cup holders, snack cup, etc) and its wheels are backed by a lifetime warranty!
I should also note that this ZOE XL1 stroller is also one of my readers’ favorite strollers! You can read my full review of this stroller here.
  • Baby Jogger Vue Lite

The Baby Jogger Vue Lite weighs just 14.5 pounds, yet offers a ton of awesome features. One of the first features that you’ll likely notice right away is that its seat is reversible. In other words, the seat can be configured such that it faces forward, or faces backward (faces the parent). Not only that, the seat can be recline regardless of whether it faces forward or backward. How neat! Another thing that’s nice is that it is “travel system ready”, which means it is car seat compatible and as such, is suitable for newborns.
  • Maclaren Quest

The Maclaren Quest stroller is definitely a premium lightweight umbrella stroller as it is more expensive than all the strollers in this list….but for a good reason. Like that G-Luxe, the Quest has ultra-padded seats which certainly makes it super comfortable for your kid as well as a removable, machine-washable seat. I also like that it has an adjustable leg rest and a “newborn safety system” which is basically a protective head and foot barrier for your newborn. This is definitely a plus if you’re traveling abroad with a newborn as you will certainly not be carrying an infant car seat around.
If you’ll be traveling with a newborn, here are some strollers that were designed for newborns.
  • Mountain Buggy Nano

As I mentioned in my review, the Mountain Buggy Nano is definitely a first class travel stroller, weighing just 13 pounds. What is really awesome about this stroller is the fact that it is has a very small footprint once folded – so much so that it fits into an included satchel bag which has a shoulder strap for easy carry. Once folded, this stroller measures just 20” x 12” x 22” and believe it or not, this stroller was designed such that it can be carried on when you’re flying. Other stand out features include a simple two step folding mechanism, a one handed unfolding mechanism, and rear wheel suspension. It also has a decent storage basket.
